DIWO-Treibgut Plateau
Summer 2026, STWST Danube Shore
This summer, we are working on a mobile concept at the STWST riverside: using a mobile platform, we aim to explore the possibilities of fluid, drifting action.
As a counter-concept to the ever-recurring idea of new buildings and architectural interventions that permanently place rigid structures of stone, steel and glass within the space, we are seeking, with the DIWO Driftwood Platform between the Danube embankment and the bustling city, a process-oriented exchange, organic materials, expanding forms and mobile elements.
At the centre is a multifunctional cart that is free to travel through both space and time: enriched as an object with real and symbolic flotsam, unfolding into a platform as a display area, and serving as a vehicle between nature and the concrete Maindeck, the cart offers a retrospective look at the history of the Alt-Urfahr Ost district, as well as showcasing art projects along the waterfront and potential future scenarios for the area. The themes are ecology, cultural life and the social sphere amidst a changing climate: between the concrete main deck, sealed surfaces and the river, amidst urban heat islands, the focus is on ecological and cultural diversity and a cool, refreshing strip of nature by the river.
In addition to events and country-themed displays, we’re inviting resourceful practitioners and theorists – as well as anyone who fancies dropping by – to get stuck in, have a chat, and, in short, get things done, all by themselves, on four scheduled dates and plenty of other impromptu occasions.
MTBA.
